Day 24 Recap

We were promised clear skies by and were a bit dismayed to discover a dreary, gray morning when we awoke in Skellefteå this morning. Cold too.

Luckily that didn't last long, and by 9ish the sun was starting to poke through and before long it was the beautiful biking day we were longing for.

I'm not sure if it was the weather, the rest day or the expansive breakfast, but we zoomed right along until lunch time and by the time we were munching crisp bread on a large rock in the woods we had covered 53 km.

By a little after noon we were back on the bikes and covered the remaining 40 km to Piteå with equal gusto, although we did take a pit stop in Hemmingsmark for some water bottle refilling and ice cream munching.

At any rate, by 3:30 PM we rolled to a stop outside the hostel in Piteå (the campground was a ridiculous 12 km out of our way) and after checking in we wandered about town for a bit, had some dinner at a little hole-in-the-wall and noticed an awesome public pump in a park. The bike-friendlyness of this country continues to amaze us. There's a picture of the pump in the Flickr feed.

93 km today. Tomorrow could well be the last leg, as Luleå is a pretty comfortable day's ride from here, but that'd bring us there a day early so if we see some place we'd like to stay at along the way we might just make it a short day.

  1. I really love Piteå ... much nicer than Skellefteå, I think. Glad you had a nice day!
